MARRIAGE

This is a tale of me and my elder brother getting married amidst the tensions of war amongst our nation and the neighbouring ones…

During that time, a couple of years ago, there was a new custom introduced in marriage that men will now pick a woman from a crowd of women standing in queues with blindfolds on.

This new custom was introduced because men were picking only rich and beautiful women for marriage, leaving the other women with little or no chance of getting married!

Its not that the other women were ugly or poor but it became a stereotype amongst men to do so; well now, each and every woman will get a fair chance of being married and spending their lives with the right man without subjecting into the old stereotypes.

Me and my brother had only a year if age gap, and we both were flourishing in our family business, when our dad decided that we too must get married.

Our dad called upon the priest to arrange for women in a queue who will get a fair chance of getting married to us, only two will get!

Everything was organised and the ceremony had began.

First went my brother with his blindfold on to choose his partner for life. He picked the first lady in the line and they went to the ceremony where they will be married.

I went second to pick a lady and I picked the fifth one in the line and headed towards the ceremony.

Both of us took our blind folds off upon the priest’s call.

My brother landed with a woman, not so beautiful, but he was happy and didn’t complain.

I took my blind fold off and I was struck to see my lady sitting right infront of me.

My brother and I were looking at each other snd he was passing smile to me indicating “what a choice man!” or so I understood by his smile!

My about to be wife, was enormously gorgeous that even gods from the heavens might have blushed looking upon her. She was like the white pearl that was just picked from the blue ocean, shining and shimmering like the stars at night! Her eyes were so gorgeous and her lips were so pink. It seemed like, even if she lies with those lips and eyes to any person, it will still seem to be the truth out her words. She was so believable and sparkling!

Soon after we got married, there was a tradition in our household to play a treasure hunt, before proceeding to our rooms. In this treasure hunt, our dad hid both of our engagement rings within the house, and the same with my brother and his wife. Where, we partners have to find each other’s rings and upon doing so, will proceed to our rooms and consummate the marriage.

My brother was finding his wife’s ring, his wife was finding his; I was finding my wife’s and she was finding mine…

About 45 minutes later, my brother screamed from the basement of the house and we all raced towards the basement…

Only to find that my brother in search of his wife’s ring, went to the basement, thinking that our dad might have hidden the ring there; and accidentally opens a luggage finding a pistol, a transmitter device and a letter…

My dad read the letter and didn’t tell us about what was written in it; but instead, rushes towards the house, carrying that letter, calls the police and hands over my wife to the government! My beautiful wife… is gone… !

It was 2 in the morning and we all were sitting in the living room… I was crying and my brother was rubbing my back and calming me down, his wife was bringing me hot milk from the kitchen… we all knew what it was… we all knew about it… it was out… when I still knowing everything, ask my dad “what was in the letter?”

He replied  She was an Israeli spy”….

And the tensions among our and the neighbouring countries and Israel continued…

But I still couldn’t forget her shining, shimmering eyes… !
