DIARIES OF A LONE TRAVELLER EP3 : Off to the Bahamas And the Mystery of The Bermuda Triangle!
Two days later, I landed in the islands of Bahamas. Again, not knowing what my next move would be!!
As it happens again and again, this time too, I went out to discover the place. But this time, I wasn’t staying at a hotel, I rented a beach house with an immense view of the sea; and nearby, were the docks of the ships and boats, and there were bazaars and street markets all around the house.
I spent the whole day with the locals, familiarising, socialising and cracking jokes over the pina coladas. I went basically everywhere I could in a single day— from the local pubs and drinking with the kind men— to the bazars, buying and eating the fish and crabs they prepare over the heat right on spot!!
The sun was setting and off to my beach house, I stopped at the docks to capture this vivid view of the sea in my memories, when I saw an old man docking his boat.
He was mumbling to himself “What a day; caught some fleshy beauties from the triangle; my daughter, Betty would be so happy”
I overheard him and couldn’t control myself, so I just walked up to him and asked “Sir, did you just say Triangle”?
He replied with agreeing to what I heard from him. He, like any other local was kind and interactive and introduced himself as Captain Rick of the boat. He said he was a fisherman as a hobbyist but a food provider for his family; and how he is short on money as there are no tourists here in the off season, where he could take them in his boat for a tour!
It was that point, when it came to my mind — “Bermuda Triangle, Nothing ever comes back once a tourist sets his step in those unknown waters…”
I asked him “ Captain, I am a tourist, take me there and I will pay your price, whatever you say!”
He said “Kid, meet me at dawn tomorrow!”
The next morning in a zap of enthusiasm, I was in the middle of nowhere- The Bermuda Triangle!!
Captain Rick, after explaining me the history of the Bahamas, Bermuda Triangle, Puerto Rico, Cuba— and all that tour knowledge they shed on tourists for extra tips; he then went to the back of the boat, the mini-ship actually, saying that he has to catch some fish and shellfish for his family.
He left me with a fishing pole and bait and said that I must enjoy myself and try out adventures; but little does he know what my true adventure meant…!!
As soon as he went back of the ship, I jumped out of the boat without any oxygen tank or scuba suit… right into the middle of the sea — the middle of nowhere— just to be lost and to wake up In a new world— beyond death!!
Did I die this time ? No !
I went unconscious and woke up in the evening at Captain Rick’s home
Upon asking what happened; he on the dinner table with his daughters and me, said that “What were you trying to do? I caught you in my fishing net along with all the other fish that are infront of you on the table!”
I asked him that “So does that mean noone dies in the Bermuda Triangle?”
“Oh no kid, it’s a Myth!! Now enjoy your meal and watch out for yourself the next time when I wont be around catching you in nets!”
